Special Education Teacher (Grades 712)

Position Overview: The school in Cedarhurst NY is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher for grades 712. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing tailored educational services to students with diverse learning needs ensuring a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters growth and success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials to accommodate students learning styles and abilities.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage students and enhance their academic social and emotional development.
- Monitor and assess student progress regularly adjusting instruction and interventions as necessary.
- Collaborate with other teachers support staff and parents to create a cohesive and supportive educational experience for students.
- Maintain accurate and uptodate records of student progress attendance and other required documentation.
- Foster a positive respectful and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and learning.
- Participate in IEP meetings parentteacher conferences and other relevant school events or meetings.
- Stay informed of best practices and new developments in special education through ongoing professional development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid New York State certification in Special Education for grades 712.
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs including those with autism learning disabilities and behavioral challenges.
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues parents and other stakeholders.
- Patience creativity and a genuine passion for working with students with special needs.
