Job Description
Our Dance Teacher is responsible for teaching dance to students in grades K-5, developing their physical, creative, and expressive skills. This role involves creating a dynamic and engaging curriculum that introduces students to various dance styles, techniques, and cultural dance traditions. The teacher will foster a love of dance, encouraging students to express themselves and appreciate the art form.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Delivery:
- Develop and implement dance lesson plans that align with state standards and school curriculum.
- Introduce students to various dance styles including ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, and cultural dances.
- Incorporate creative movement, choreography, and performance techniques.
- Utilize age-appropriate instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
Classroom and Studio Management:
- Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
- Manage classroom and studio space effectively, ensuring student safety during movement activities.
- Establish clear rules and expectations for student behavior and participation.
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Assess student progress in dance skills, creativity, and expression through informal and formal assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback to help students improve their techniques and performances.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.
Professional Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with other teachers, support staff, and administration to enhance the educational experience.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with dance education best practices.
- Engage with the school community through performances, events, and parent-teacher conferences.
Student Support:
- Identify and address individual student needs, providing additional support or enrichment as necessary.
- Encourage all students to participate and explore their creative potential.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Dance Education, Performing Arts, or a related field.
- Master’s degree or additional coursework in Dance Education is preferred.
Certification:
- Valid teaching certification/license for the state in which the school is located.
- Endorsement in dance or a related field is highly desirable.
Experience:
- Previous teaching experience in dance, preferably in an elementary school setting.
- Experience in choreography and organizing student performances is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of dance techniques, pedagogy, and choreography.
- Excellent classroom and studio management skills.
- Proficiency in using music and technology to enhance dance instruction.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate young students.
Working Conditions:
- Standard school hours with occasional evenings or weekends for performances, events, or professional development.
- Dance studio and classroom settings, requiring physical activity and movement throughout the day.
