Job Title: Credentialing Specialist
Location: Norwood, OH
Contract Duration: 13-week contract, fully onsite.
Job Summary: The Credentialing Specialist is responsible for the coordination and preparation of medical staff functions, including the credentialing and privileging process. This role ensures compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies such as The Joint Commission and NCQA. The Credentialing Specialist manages all aspects of credentialing, maintains confidentiality, and assists in ensuring provider compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the credentialing and privileging activities for Medical Staff and Allied Health Staff, ensuring compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws, policies, and regulatory agencies.
- Provide administrative support to various medical staff committees, including Credentials and General Staff committees.
- Process requests for temporary privileges, additional privileges, one-time privileges, and visiting physician/student observer privileges.
- Verify professional qualifications such as medical licensure, board certifications, professional liability coverage, and certifications (e.g., BLS, ACLS, ATLS, NRP, DEA).
- Manage credentialing databases and ensure monthly review and management of all expirables.
- Assist in the preparation for Joint Commission accreditation and other regulatory body reviews.
- Support the coordination of annual dues processes, on-call schedule preparation, and department director elections.
- Provide customer support in the absence of the Credentialing Assistant or Administrative Assistant.
- Facilitate verification of medical staff membership and clinical privileges for providers from other healthcare facilities.
- Assist with medical staff events, functions, and other assigned duties.
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in credentialing, privileging, and medical staff services within a healthcare setting.
- Strong verbal, written, and telephone communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, pay attention to detail, and work independently.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize issues and develop solutions.
- Proficiency in database management, Microsoft Office, and Windows applications.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission and other healthcare regulatory standards.
- Physical requirements include climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying.
Education:
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Associate’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Certifications:
- Preferred: CPCS or CPMSM certifications.
Schedule:
- Full-time, 32-40 hours per week.
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:40 PM.
- Business casual attire required.
