Job Description
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for analyzing production costs, preparing cost reports, and providing insight into areas for cost reduction or efficiency improvements. This role plays a crucial part in helping the organization make informed financial decisions and maintain profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect, analyze, and report on production costs, including direct materials, labor, and overhead.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports to assist in budgeting and forecasting.
- Maintain cost accounting systems and ensure accuracy in financial data related to inventory, cost of goods sold, and margins.
- Analyze variances between actual costs and standard costs, providing explanations for discrepancies.
- Conduct cost analyses to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve profitability.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with inventory valuation and reconciliation.
- Support pricing decisions and product profitability analysis.
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Coordinate with other departments such as production, procurement, and sales to ensure accurate cost tracking.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulations.
- Participate in audits and assist with external and internal audit processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- 3+ Proven experience as a cost accountant or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Microsoft Excel.
- Analytical skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of financial regulations and standards.
- CPA a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems and inventory management software.
